VOLVO AUTONOMOUS TRANSPORTATION DEVELOPED AND FOCUSES ON INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL TRANSPORT
A new business unit that focuses on autonomous transportation has been curbed out by the Swedish auto-giant ‘Volvo’. The group established by the company is mandated to focus on industrial areas like transportation of goods between logistics units or hubs, ports, and mining. It has also been figured out, the producer of this vehicle has been working hard to make sure the company delivers vehicles developed with autonomous technology, precisely in this industrial sector.
It’s also been figured out that there is a potential demand for this kind of vehicle developed with autonomous technology – deployable in all kinds of logistics service. Based on this, the company made its decision to curb out a business unit that will address the demand for this product.
Meanwhile, the trucks are self-driving, deployable in a busy port location, mines, and quarries areas. According to reports, the new group emerging from the company will be called Volvo Autonomous Solutions. And its official mission is to “accelerate the development, commercial and sales of autonomous transport solutions”. This will potentially focus on the kind of transportation “where there is a need to move large volumes of goods and material on pre-defined routes, in receptive flows”.
This is also viewed from the system’s autonomous transportation layout, a control center that allows the same service for the coordinated movement of multiple self-driving trucks, enabling smoother workflow and faster transportation of goods.
On the other hand, the growth anticipated by the company was part of the customer’s feedback. Responding to this, the CEO and president of Volvo Group ‘Martin Lundstedt’ stated that “significant increase in inquiries from customers” was figured out. Although, Volvo Autonomous Solutions won’t be a new section of business until 2020
The semi – device functionality which enables these trucks to automatically avoid a collision is operated and controlled via its cloud-based service, this does not exclude the fact that the autonomous head can be used for any trailer.
Lastly, the ideology of deploying such vehicles in a fixed-route sound pretty good, this is because its industrial applications eliminate challenges and complexity of driving in an urban environment since their routes are predictable.
